The Huawei debacle wasn't really over, and we got hammered by the Coronavirus from the east. Before you accuse me of blaming Huawei for the virus (they deal with different kinds of viruses), I want to make myself clear that this is not my intention. I am just saying what impeccable timing!
Like everyone else, Huawei must have been hit by this as well, maybe more than others due to its spread (talking about the company). It almost looks like this virus has hit organizations and stock exchanges more than people. Neither this is the first time a life-threating virus has hit humanity, nor the casualty by Coronavirus anywhere close to existing catastrophes like Ebola, SARS, HIV, or previously Dengue, Malaria, etc. So why it is different this time with Coronavirus. It's not like that last time a virus hit humanity, a vaccine or treatment was already available, it evolved, and we came out as victorious at the end. But this time, the impact is evident on both living and non-living things.
With all due respect, I think this is because of two main things, firstly it originated in China, and secondly, we live in the 21st century. Let me explain one by one; China is the manufacturing hub of the world. Stuff all over the world is "Made in China". So, if you shut the gates on it to avoid the virus from spreading, you can envision the impact on the global economy. Not only that, but China also generates maximum tourism revenue for the rest of the world. I think this is the high time to move the GMT (Centre of the world) to China.
Secondly, living in the 21st century, the information age has its disadvantages. There are two kinds of personalities here, one who produces the information and one who consumes and reacts to it. In the first set, yes, there are a few competent folks with accurate and unbiased information; however, most of them are smart to know how to use the information to their advantage. Now, most of the people in the second set react without realizing the consequences, and before you know it, the not-so-accurate news spreads like a virus. And this is the actual virus. The first set only forms the virus; it's the second set, which makes it a catastrophe. The thing, which was an epidemic, now becomes the pandemic.
The bottom line is, however, significant progress we make in medicine and technology, a virus smaller than a cell can bring the world to its knees. So, keep washing your hands and don't believe everything you see on social media.
